WHAT IS RCI?
Resort Condominium International (RCI) is a no.1 holiday exchange
network whose headquarters is at Indianapolis USA. An enterprising
lady Ms. Christel de Hans , who owned one timeshare resort, which
she went to year after year first conceived the concept. Then
she struck upon a brilliant idea & decided to exchange for
resort for a specific period of time year with her friends also
owing holiday spots at different places. The idea marvelously
because everyone involved was happy & each person got to spend
exciting holidays at different places each year with a minimum
expenditure. They were De Han's first members & the number
swelled to 453. The year was 1974 & Rci was born RCI has since
established itself as the world’s largest & most well
known timeshare exchange company. RCI India is based at Bangalore
& looks after the needs of members throughout the Indian subcontinent
& NRI’s in the Middle East Ms. Christel De Hans was
CEO of RCI till Nov.12,1996, when hospitality Franchise system
(HFS) Incorporated purchased RCI for US $ 625 million.
The takeover of RCI by HFS (Hospitality Franchise system, the
world’s largest franchise operator of hotels, estate agencies
& brokerage offices) brings increased opportunities &
economies of scale to RCI affiliates HFS is now focusing
on service to all its continents including RCI’s 3473 resort
affiliated who will receive the same services coordinated buying
program’s, increased marketing support & the ability
to provide added value to timeshare buyers through cross marketing
opportunities that HFS offers its franchises. In 1997, HFS Inc.
CUC International the world’s largest consumer & business
services company merged to form Cendant Corporation which is now
RCI’s parent company with a combined turnover of 522 billions

The 50 weeks for
a unit are categorized into four main reasons:

HOW DO YOU EXCHANGE YOUR WEEK
If you would like to quail your own week
at your resort, you can do so by simply informing
as atleast 30 days in advance on the other hand,
if you would like to exchange your week, you can either
choose from the resorts that DRI offers or from
the 4500 resorts offered to you by RCI.
The rules of exchange, accumulation, pre-PONE at
DRI are as per RCI norms. In India, the RCI office is
located at bangalore where the exchange facilities are
processed (gurgoan and Mumbai with tel no)
The exchange system works very much like a bank
you deposit timeshare week you have purchased with RCI’s
space back pool and there withdraw weeks deposited by
other members. If you wish to avail the split
week space bank pool. The life span of a deposited week in 2yrs.
When the member request an exchange the computer
assigns it a value equal to the week, which
was deposited. This value is called the members trading power,
which was deposited. This value is called
the members trading power, which remains constant throughout the
particular exchange process.
The computer searches through the all deposit made
by members and tries to match the value of week
with requested.
The trading power is based
on five factors:

SEASON: every
holiday area in the world has different peak
periods and off–season. So to simplify these
to all members around the world, RCI defines
RED as peak season & BLUE as a regular season.
You can exchange your time for other members time same
color band or lower.

ACCOMODATION SIZE:
RCI Resorts Units are assessed by the maximum no
of bedroom & bedrooms accommodations.

DEMAND: Obviously
some resorts and holiday areas are more popular
then other like AULI is famous for skiing purpose & so Clifftop
Club is the first Ski & Golf Resort in India with
international demand So, the higher the demand the higher
the exchange value

HOLIDAY EXPERIENCE
PROFILE: Members receive holiday questioners on
the return from an exchange, which they complete and send
it to RCI Q Assurance Office. This is graded
on a scale to assure better quality services
provided by the concern resort, which is recorded and
matched with resorts Holiday experience Profile (HFP)

DEPOSIT DATE:
The earlier member deposits his/her week, the higher
the trading power recognizes that as the start date of week
approaches its value within the space bank pool
declines.
WHEN CAN YOU DEPOSIT YOUR
WEEK:
You can deposit your weeks as 2yrs or as late
as 40 days before the start date of the week with the RCI
space bank pool.
WHEN CAN YOU TRAVEL:
You can travel 12 months before to 24
months after start date of week owned.
WHEN CAN YOU REQUEST AN EXCHANGE:
Three types of exchange are entertained:

Fair exchange:
Request for exchange of weeks can be done as early
as 2yrs to 46days before the start date of your travel
week. As the start date of a deposited week draws nearer
the value of that week is greater depending upon
how early it is deposited and therefore a greater change
of getting a confirmation to the resort of your choice.

Late Exchange:
Weeks which has not been allocated 45 days prior to their
start date fall into the late exchange category. This means
that their trading power has reached a level, which can
be accessed by all members. Trading power becomes equal
and season bands no longer applied. Members
can have access to resorts & that dates with
higher value, but confirm to a larger
apartment, can only travel the same size group
could occupy their own unit.

Split week
exchange system: Indian members
will now be able to deposit their
owners ship week into the split week system and
avail a three or four days split at
any operational resort in India and does not apply to
international exchanges accept South Africa. A week
that is deposited in the RCI bank may
not be transferred to split week space bank
and vice versa.

When you request an exchange:
-
Choose the resort you would like
to visit.

Decide when you want to take a holiday.
-
Make a requests for dates, which
are in the same band or lower of the same or lower
unit size then the week you hold.
Having done this, all you need is the confirmation
call/voucher from RCI.
CONFIRMATION OF TE EXCHANGE:
RCI confirms you your request on telephone followed by a confirmation
voucher along with a Resort Information of your exchange. Confirmation
in writing is done within 21 days.
RETURNING A DEPOSITED WEEK:
Once your week is deposited in the RCI space bank pool, it can
be returned to you, provided it has not been withdrawn by another
RCI members and you have not had confirmation of your exchange
request. In case of cancellation of the confirmed
period entitles you to request another exchange but
the exchange priorities will be reduced. An additional
exchange fee is required to be paid.
WHAT OTHER ADVANTAGES DO YOU GET AS AN RCI
MEMBER?
Once you are member of RCI you will receive the following from
RCI-India

RCI membership card which has your
membership number.

Holiday magazines , sent quarterly.

The World of RCI or other brochure.

Welcome letter.
-
Two welcome weeks per membership are given
that must be availed within the first year. The welcome weeks
must be booked within 60 days of the offer and can betaken
at any points under the welcome week offer (Domestic/ International).

Bonus weeks: This is an additional week given
on surplus availability. Thee welcome weeks and bonus
weeks are special in the sense you do not have to Deposit
your own week with the RCI in order to avail your holidays but
only pay a bonus exchange fee.

2-for-1 holiday scheme: here you simply
deposit one week the space bank pool and request a 2-week
holiday. You have one regular week plus (2 for 1 holidays) or
(3 for 1 holiday) weeks at fixed locations for
a special 2 for week fee.
